Greenwich Council Cabinet Reshuffle

The Leader of Royal Borough of Greenwich Council has reshuffled his cabinet following the death of Councillor Christine Grice.  Councillor Grice passed away following a battle with cancer and had served as Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources since 2018.  Apart from the Leader, Danny Thorpe, every portfolio is impacted.

Leaving the cabinet:

  • David Gardner, formerly Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Public Realm
  • Averil Lekau, formerly Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care
  • Denise Hyland, former Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Apprenticeships

The new cabinet:

  • Leader of the Council – Danny Thorpe
  • Deputy Leader and Economy and Skills – Denise Scott-McDonald (was Air Quality, Sustainability and Transport)
  • Environment, Sustainability and Transport – Sizwe James (was Regeneration and Growth)
  • Culture and Communities – Adel Khaireh (new appointment)
  • Finance and Resources – Chris Kirby (was Housing)
  • Regeneration and Growth – Sarah Merrill (new appointment)
  • Children and Young People – Matt Morrow (new appointment)
  • Housing – Anthony Okereke (new appointment)
  • Community Safety and Enforcement – Jackie Smith (was Children’s Services and Community Safety)
  • Health and Adult Social Care – Miranda Williams (was Culture, Leisure and the Third Sector)

New appointments:

  • Adel Khaireh is Head of Youth Services and Community Engagement at GIC and has been Labour Councillor for Glyndon since 2018.
  • Sarah Merrill has been Labour Councillor for Shooters Hill since 2014.
  • Matt Morrow has been Labour Councillor for Plumstead since 2010.
  • Anthony Okereke has been Labour Councillor for Woolwich Common since 2018.
