The Leader of Royal Borough of Greenwich Council has reshuffled his cabinet following the death of Councillor Christine Grice. Councillor Grice passed away following a battle with cancer and had served as Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources since 2018. Apart from the Leader, Danny Thorpe, every portfolio is impacted.
Leaving the cabinet:
- David Gardner, formerly Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Public Realm
- Averil Lekau, formerly Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care
- Denise Hyland, former Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Apprenticeships
The new cabinet:
- Leader of the Council – Danny Thorpe
- Deputy Leader and Economy and Skills – Denise Scott-McDonald (was Air Quality, Sustainability and Transport)
- Environment, Sustainability and Transport – Sizwe James (was Regeneration and Growth)
- Culture and Communities – Adel Khaireh (new appointment)
- Finance and Resources – Chris Kirby (was Housing)
- Regeneration and Growth – Sarah Merrill (new appointment)
- Children and Young People – Matt Morrow (new appointment)
- Housing – Anthony Okereke (new appointment)
- Community Safety and Enforcement – Jackie Smith (was Children’s Services and Community Safety)
- Health and Adult Social Care – Miranda Williams (was Culture, Leisure and the Third Sector)
New appointments:
- Adel Khaireh is Head of Youth Services and Community Engagement at GIC and has been Labour Councillor for Glyndon since 2018.
- Sarah Merrill has been Labour Councillor for Shooters Hill since 2014.
- Matt Morrow has been Labour Councillor for Plumstead since 2010.
- Anthony Okereke has been Labour Councillor for Woolwich Common since 2018.
