Donachie Resigns from Swindon Cabinet

Councillor Oliver Donachie has resigned from Swindon Council’s cabinet in a row with leader David Renard. Cllr Donachie has been Cabinet Member for Economy and Place since 2017, having previous served as Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Safety from 2016 to 2017.

The departing councillor, who is also leaving the Conservative group, says his resignation is due to opposition to give council officials more decision making powers during the Covid-19 pandemic. His boss, Cllr Renard, disputes this by claiming Cllr Donachie demanded a particular role on the cabinet and threatened to resign unless he got what he wanted.
