Jandy Joins and Williams Take Climate Change on Swindon Council

Councillor Keith Williams has been appointed to lead Swindon Borough Council’s response to the climate emergency. He moves from his role as Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Operational Excellence to become Cabinet Member for Climate Change. Meanwhile, Councillor Robert Jandy has joined the cabinet for the first time to take charge of the Organisational Excellence portfolio.

The changes follow the resignation of Oliver Donachie from both the cabinet and the Conservative group on the council. He was angry at the leadership of David Renard and now sits as an independent. His partner, Emma Faramarzi, has also left the Conservatives.

The majority of other cabinet positions remain unchanged, although a number of portfolio responsibilities have been altered. Due to the creation of the climate change position, the policy areas held by Oliver Donachie have been spread to other posts. Dale Heenan adds Culture and Heritage to his Town Centre portfolio. Gary Sumner gets a larger portfolio covering Infrastructure and Transport in addition to Planning.
